Wings Construction Update – July

A recent site visit to The Wings building on Friday the 22nd of July 2016 revealed many exciting developments on the project. The project managers, Bovell Ross, made this visit possible and its purpose was to shed light on the building’s construction progress since the last published update in June, 2016.

The tour began from the parking lot to the vast restaurant, which serves temporarily as the office of the project manager, Bovell Ross, and the site office of Cappa & D’Alberto, the main contractor handling the project.

The team walked through the restaurant into the main reception lobby. Taking a left turn, they headed for the east tower of the building, Tower 1, which will be occupied by Oando Plc. There, they emerged in a porcelain tiled, glass walled lobby that will serve as the security lobby for the east tower, housing a reception desk and turnstile access control and eventually proceeded to the well-lit glass-walled meeting room in the corner of the lobby.

Across from the East tower’s security lobby, the public lobby could be seen with its sleek curved ceiling design prominently in place, imposing its modern elegance on the premises.

Just off the lobby area is a disabled restroom and a stylish lift lobby comprising of a bank of four lifts – three standard passenger lifts and one emergency lift.

The ride to the 16th floor on the state-of the art emergency lift was wonderfully smooth and quick.

On arrival, the visiting team walked into the lift lobby, which also housed the sophisticated restrooms. All restrooms have been fitted with motion-censored lights and fittings for optimal energy efficiency.

The 5th-14th floors are identical, comprising 1000m2+ of office space, with entry through aluminium and glass entrance doors. Inside the office space, ceiling tiles are fully installed and fitted with air diffusers, motion sensors, sprinklers, lights, vents and smoke detectors.

 

However, according to Bovell Ross, the ceiling tiles in Tower 2 will be installed during the fit out process of the incoming tenants, in order to align with their specific fit-out requirements or needs.

The external double glazed glass walls offered fantastic panoramic views of the Five Cowrie Creek and Ikoyi on the North facing end, and views of Victoria Island the Atlantic ocean, on the South facing end. Power skirting for data reticulation has been installed on the office floors.

Another notable site to behold is the entertainment deck on the 5th floor. This deck can be accessed through both towers and is designed as a recreational space that will host social events and corporate get-togethers.

 

Ongoing works on the function deck include the timber decking and installation of the tent structure.

Progress report from project managers, Bovell Ross

 

As at July, the construction works are on track and 86% complete.

 

Ongoing work includes:

 

– HVAC final fix installations

– Tiling completions at the reception

– Waterproofing

– Façade completions

– Outbuildings and external works

 

The next stages are:

 

– Pavement of roads

– Landscaping (hard and soft)

– Piling/installation of floating jetty at the end of August

– Installation of tent structure and timber decking of the entertainment deck

– Final testing and commissioning of services

– Completion of external works/outbuildings and components such as rising bollards and turnstiles.

 

The Project managers further stated that tenants who begin their fit-out process now will have finished and be ready to move in by the time the building’s construction is complete in September, as tenant fit-outs can take between 2-3 months.

 

When asked for comments about how he thought the Wings building compared to other comparable office spaces in the country, Mr Marcus Ross, project manager of the development reassuringly asserted that it is one of the top buildings in terms of quality of finish in the country, and that it’s got a great location.
