There is a growing trend in workspaces around the world, Lagos inclusive. Traditional workspaces have now been replaced with more friendly and relaxing environments, in a bid to reduce work tension, enhance creativity and boost productivity. The primary aim of workspaces now includes a conducive work environment, promote idea-sharing, engagement, and cohesiveness.
The evolution of workspaces began in the early 90’s when companies discovered that the traditional corporate office drains creativity and affected employee productivity. To make the workplace fun and easy, employers began to innovate in workspace design.
Modern workspace design demands that the workspace should be environmentally friendly. However, it is important to note that the amount of creativity applied to a workspace is vastly dependent on the style of office space. See ”What to seek for in an ideal office space”

What makes for an Ideal work space?
The temperature and ambience of a workspace work space must be conducive. Basic things like air conditioning, access to clean drinking water, coffee etc. must be provided.
Poor lighting can constitute major problems at work, as it can cause drowsiness and even headaches. Poor lighting also makes the user less focused whilst working.
- Environmentally friendly
Gone are the days when the only decorations found in workspaces are award plaques, certificates, books and a computer. Now, you can add home elements, such as family photos, a plant, fancy sculptures etc.
An ideal workspace must be organized, as scattered or clustered spaces make it hard for users to concentrate. It’s a rule of thumb to keep the workspace clean.
Standard Office Services
A workspace should have access to standard services such as;
- Fast internet connection
- Printer and photocopy machines,
- Pinning board.
- Storage for books and files
